Each bead is painstakingly made by hand, making it a charming and honest piece of art.
Our Story
Earthbutter bead studio is situated in Wellington, a rural community outside Cape Town, South Africa. Earthbutter Beads was started by Desiree Malan to create income opportunities for marginalised women from Wellington, mostly single moms who are unemployed or otherwise seasonal farm workers. Our story is that of many hands working together to make one-of-a-kind beads which will be enjoyed by people the world over.
We've made these pendants with discarded wine bottles and ceramic clay. There are so many glass bottles lying around begging to be recycled. Our next recycling effort will be to make glass beads. One small step towards improving our environment.
